About

Michael Thomas was born in Birmingham, England. He studied at Bournville College of Art and the London College of Printing before completing an MA at the London College of Communication in 2010.

He has been involved with many different aspects of visual culture in his adult working life. His career began assisting an industrial photographer in Birmingham, followed by work in the music industry as a print buying assistant.

After completing a National Diploma in Design he assisted various fashion photographers whilst studying for a BA in Photography at LCP.

He began photographing for magazines in the late 1990s. His work appeared in 10 Magazine, Arena, Arena Hommes Plus, Big, Dazed, Details, Esquire, The Face, New York Times, L'Optimum, L'Officiel, The Telegraph, The Times, British Vogue and Wallpaper amongst others.

His desire to evolve photographically led him to complete a masters degree at the London College of Communication and, after that, to concentrate on still life photography, preferring the working process and laboratory like approach.

His work deals with location, space, time, memory and trajectory. The work is mostly evidence - approximated shorthand for experiences and emotions that are impossible to convey exactly.

Michael lives and works in London.
